Susan Ulm Burdette was first introduced to Bel Air by her father who was Senior Vice President of the First National Bank on Office Street. After graduating from Towson University with degrees in Psychology and Elementary Education, she began a 35 year career at the Harford County Public Library starting as the library artist at Bel Air Branch and advancing to a librarian, manager of the Publicity Department and, finally, Program and Community Relations Specialist in Administration.
Susan moved to Major’s Choice in 1986 with her husband, Steve, who owned a small architectural firm and her sons, Bradford and Alexander, who attended Bel Air Elementary School and participated in Bel Air Parks and Recreation programs, Scout Troops and volunteer activities.
Susan’s career at the public library involved government budget management, strategic planning, building programs, marketing and public service. She is a graduate of the Harford Leadership Academy and served on the Harford County Chamber of Commerce Education Liaison Committee.
Commissioner Burdette has always supported and encouraged community involvement. She received special recognition from SARC, the March of Dimes, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Faith Communities and Civic Agencies United for her volunteerism and leadership.
