The Town of Bel Air maintains five neighborhood parks - Alice Anne Park, Plumtree Park, Shamrock Park, Majors Choice Park and Homestead Park. These neighborhood parks are relatively small, ranging in size from 1/2 acre to 7 acres. They contain a wide array of amenities ranging from play equipment and picnic facilities to an amphitheater supporting an active summer concert series.
The Town also maintains one community park - Rockfield Park on Churchville Road. Rockfield Park contains approximately 53 acres, and includes the Manor House, which is available for lease for weddings and private events. The park boasts the popular Creative Playground, an extensive trail network, environmental education areas, and a five acre public garden.
Immediately adjacent to the Town are two County parks - Bynum Pond and Heavenly Waters Park. These include extensive ballfields, the Liriodendron Mansion, trail systems, and many other amenities. The Town is also served by the Ma & Pa hiking/biking trail, which generally follows the old railroad bed from Fallston to Forest Hill.
The first section of the Ma & Pa hiking and biking trail was completed in 1999. Since then, County Parks and Recreation completed two sections between Bynum Road and Jarrettsville Road and a section between Edgeley Grove and Tollgate Road. The one remaining connection between Williams Street and Bynum Road remains to be completed. The Town is also working on a proposal to connect this trail at the Williams Street entry to a north/south trail which would loosely follow Plumtree Run south to the town boundary. A map of the trail is available on line, click here to view it.
