Departments - Administration - I.T.

IT is a sub-section of the Administration Department. Information technology is an enabler for a strong sense of community and provides the foundation for cost effective service delivery and sound fiscal management.

Information systems initiatives are established in the Town to closely align with the Town's goals and objectives. The IT staff insures that resources are continually focused in those areas that will provide the highest level of service to our citizens.

In the event of a disaster, it is essential that we are capable of continuing our responsibilities to our citizens, employees, customers and the public, despite any impairment to current operations. The IT staff practices standard emergency and recovery practices.

The Town has a sub-network system which consists of two separate systems (telephone and computer) connected through a bridge owned and maintained by Harford County Government.

All computers are password protected and the system is protected with a firewall. The Town does not use wireless connections to the system and there is no outside access to the server. Technical support is provided by highly skilled professionals. The IT staffing includes a full-time Information Technology Specialist and a part-time assistant.

The Technical Communications Committee bi-monthly reviews the overall computer system operation and submits annual budget requests to the Town Administrator for computer software, equipment and training for all departments. The Technical Communications Committee consists of all department heads, the Town Administrator, the IT Specialist, and the Senior Planner. The Director of Administration and IT Specialist oversees the daily operation of the system, purchasing of hardware and software, and computer training for all Town employees.

The Director of Administration and IT Specialist also oversee the Town's computerized telephone system. The staff is responsible for maintenance of the telephone system and the purchasing of associated hardware and software.
