The Board meets on a monthly basis as needed. Meetings are generally not held in August or December. Additional meetings may be held at the call of the Chairman. The Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at 39 N. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, Maryland. Meetings are open to the public; staff support is provided by the Bel Air Planning Department. There will be NO May meeting. Submission deadline for the June 26th meeting is June 1st.
The Board of Appeals is a volunteer Board consisting of a five (5) member body mandated by State law. Powers & Duties. The Board’s role is to hear appeals from property owners for special exceptions, variances, or interpretations of the Town’s zoning regulations. Members are appointed for a three (3) year term by the Board of Town Commissioners. Members must be Town residents. Members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for travel and other expenses incurred in Town business. The Board elects its own chairman from among the membership by a majority vote of all members. This group acts in a quasi-judicial role as dictated by the State of Maryland in Article 66B of the Maryland Annotated Code.
