Park Planning & Development

The Town of Bel Air maintains five neighborhood parks—Alice Anne Park, Plumtree Park, Shamrock Park, Majors Choice Park, and Aquilla Scott Park. These neighborhood parks are relatively small, ranging in size from 1/2 acre to 7 acres. They contain a wide array of amenities ranging from play equipment and picnic facilities to an amphitheater supporting an active summer concert series.

The Town also maintains one community park—Rockfield Park on Churchville Road. Rockfield Park contains approximately 53 acres, and includes the Manor House. The park boasts the popular Creative Playground, an extensive trail network, environmental education areas, and a five acre public garden.

Immediately adjacent to the Town are two County parks—Bynum Pond and Heavenly Waters Park. These include extensive ballfields, the Liriodendron Mansion, trail systems, and many other amenities. The Town is also served by the Ma &Pa hiking/biking trail, which follows the old railroad bed.

Plans call for this trail to be expanded from the current 6 mile section to connect Baltimore County to Pennsylvania through Harford County, a total of approximately 25 miles. In the future, to Town hopes to complement this system with a trail along Plumtree Run and possible Bynum Run.Planning for park expansion and upkeep is a shared responsibility including Town and County personnel and volunteers.

Brochures are available on Rockfield Park's gardens, wildflowers, and the Manor House.
