Transportation Planning

Main Street Improvement Program
The Town is working with the Maryland Department of Transportation and the State Highway Administration on a plan to upgrade the Main Street area, from Fulford Avenue to Maulsby Avenue. Plans include improvements to sidewalks, curbs, gutters, lighting, landscape, and streets.

Trail System
The first section of the Ma & Pa hiking and biking trail was completed in 1999. Plans call for the extension of this trail from Bel Air to Forest Hill within the next two years. The Town is also working on a proposal to connect this trail at the Williams Street entry to a north/south trail which would loosely follow Plumtree Run south to the town boundary.

Neighborhood Transportation Management Program
The Neighborhood Transportation Management Program is designated to quantify traffic problems, identify potential solutions, and work with neighborhoods to reach a consensus on the most appropriate traffic control options. Town residents who experience speed or safety concerns on neighborhood streets are encouraged to contact the Town Public Works Office or Town Planning Office.
