Planning Department

The Planning Department provides a wide variety of services to the residents and businesses of Bel Air related to the physical and community development of the town. The department is responsible for:
  • Land use planning & urban development
  • Development review
  • Historic preservation
  • Traffic and parking analysis
  • Neighborhood Transportation Management Program
  • Park planning
  • Update & enforce Town’s Development Regulations
  • Review & analysis of Site, Subdivision & Landscape Plans 
  • Review & recommendation of Annexations & Rezoning requests
  • Prepare & maintain the Town Comprehensive Plan
  • Park Memorial program
  • Floodplain information
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Process permits related to sheds (under 200 sf), fences, signs, untagged vehicles, home occupations and temporary uses
  • Architectural review of development proposals

The Department also provides staff support to the Planning Commission, Board of Appeals, Historic Preservation Commission, and Tree Committee.
